The challenge

Chatterton Tuition Ltd had years of eleven-plus material and a tutor’s instinct for where children slip up. What they didn’t have was a way to put that in front of a child every day between lessons. Printed papers get done once and filed away, and they can’t tell a parent which topic is actually holding their child back.

The brief was a practice app aimed squarely at Ripon Grammar School entrance, written in the GL Assessment style, that a family could pay for monthly and a child would actually open.

What we built

• A question bank of 10,500+ questions across English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning, organised into 54 topics and more than 1,000 passages and question sets, with new questions going in most weeks.
• Timed papers in four styles that follow the real exam’s timing and format. Each paper is drawn fresh from the bank every time, so a child can’t learn the answers by heart.
• A review mode that only asks the questions a child is still getting wrong, so practice time goes where it’s needed.
• Family accounts with a separate profile for each child. Siblings keep their own progress, streaks and medals without treading on each other.
• An app that installs to a tablet or phone home screen, with optional daily practice reminders, and no app store in the way.
• Simple subscription billing at £9.99 per child per month, with every subject included and no tiers to choose between.

The result

CHATT+ turns a tuition agency’s expertise into something that works every day of the week, not just in the hour a tutor is in the room. It gives Chatterton Tuition Ltd a recurring revenue stream alongside their tutoring and practice papers, and it reaches families well beyond the reach of an in-person lesson.
